Bill Dallman has been named news director of Los Angeles CBS-owned stations KCBS and KCAL.

Dallman comes back to local TV after working as vp of news at Fox Sports 1. He starts in early September.

“Bill comes to us with a great reputation as a terrific leader of large newsrooms, a consensus builder who brings out the best in his colleagues and a seasoned journalist who shares our deep commitment to producing high-quality newscasts,” said KCBS-KCAL president and gm Steve Mauldin. “We are thrilled to welcome him back to the local news world, where he has enjoyed great success in a number of very competitive markets, and look forward to having him play a leading role in the continuing success of our stations.”

His first news director job was at WZZM in Grand Rapids, Mich. Before working at Fox Sports 1, Dallman was news director at KMSP in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. He also spent seven years as news director at KDVR in Denver, Colo. before that.
