Sweeps Coverage: KMBC Hails the Top Three Highest Rated Newscasts in Kansas City

By Andrew Gauthier

Kansas City’s KMBC shared in the sweeps dominance shown by other Hearst-owned ABC-affiliates in February, winning or tying for first in every time period that it has a newscast.

Mirroring the success displayed by Boston’s WCVB and Milwaukee’s WISN, KMBC kept Fox-affiliate WDAF at bay on its way to a clean sweep of the schedule.

While it tied WDAF for first at 6:00 a.m., KMBC won convincingly in the evening. In fact, the station’s 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts were the three highest-rated newscasts of any time period (KCTV‘s 10 p.m. newscast placed fourth and WDAF’s 7 a.m. newscast was fifth).

“I am very proud of our news team,” said KMBC 9 News Director, Sherrie Brown. “They work tirelessly to cover the stories viewers want and need to see.”
