Jim Spencer’s Blood Alcohol Level Nearly 3 Times Legal Limit When Arrested for DUI

By Kevin Eck

We’ve gotten more info about the arrest of longtime KXAN weather anchor Jim Spencer.

While there seems to be a distinct cone of silence over Austin regarding the arrest, Matthew Keys at The Desk has published the police report detailing what happened the night Spencer was arrested for DUI.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the scene of a single car crash. When they got there, they found Spencer standing outside his gray Lexus. He told the cops that another vehicle made an aggressive merge, which forced him off the road.

“Spencer had a wet liquid spilled in his car that emitted an odor of an alcoholic beverage,” read the report. “Spencer also had three unopened Michelob Ultra 12 ounce glass bottles. Spencer also had three unopened White Claw seltzer 12-ounce cans.”

Spencer’s blood alcohol level was measured at .218, about three times the legal limit in Texas. He was booked into the Travis County Jail early Monday morning, and was released on $3,000 bond. His initial court appearance is scheduled for early August. His arrest was first reported by the industry blog FTV Live.

No one at KXAN has responded to our questions about the arrest.
