Jay Leno will turn to one of his oldest friends in show business, Jerry Seinfeld, below, to be the first guest on his new prime-time show. NBC announced on Friday that Mr. Seinfeld would be the main guest on the first hourlong “Jay Leno Show,” which will have its premiere at 10 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Mr. Leno has cited Mr. Seinfeld as one of his chief advisers when he was considering NBC’s offer to start a new show in prime time. Mr. Seinfeld, since leaving his top-rated comedy on NBC, has been an occasional late-night guest, often with David Letterman on CBS, and has usually performed several minutes of stand-up comedy as well as sitting for an interview.
