Iowa Broadcast Pioneer Passes Away

Jack Shelley, longtime voice of radio and television news for WHO in Des Moines and a former journalism professor at Iowa State University, died Tuesday night. He was 98.

John D. “Jack” Shelley was on the WHO staff for 30 years, first on radio, then on both radio and television. He joined the faculty at Iowa State in 1965 and became a professor in 1969.

He taught at ISU until 1982–when school policy forced him to retire at age 70. More…
