Indianapolis Station WTHR Adds Hour-Long Afternoon Newscast

Tegna’s Indianapolis NBC affiliate is adding an hour of local news starting at 4 p.m. beginning Wednesday, September 6.

The new show will be anchored by Felicia Lawrence and Dustin Grove. Grove has been working on special assignments for the station. Lawrence joined the team in 2022 and will also anchor the 5 p.m. newscasts.

“We are committed to evolving with the ever-changing needs of our audience,” says WTHR president and general manager Michael Brouder. “This growth allows us to provide more of the award-winning local content our viewers expect from The News Leader.”

“During our 4 p.m. hour, viewers will see the latest, local breaking news and all the weather information they need to plan for the week ahead,” says WTHR director of content Scott Hums. “In addition, 13News at 4 p.m. will feature What’s the Deal with Allison Gormly consumer investigations and in-depth local stories unique to this broadcast.”

WTHR will expand its newsroom, adding additional content and on-air staffing to support this 13News expansion. “Growing our newsroom gives us the ability to tell more stories and better connect with the local communities we serve,” says WTHR news director Nicole Block.

This expansion also means a change to the WTHR afternoon lineup. Access Daily with Mario & Kit and Daily Blast Live slides to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. NBC News Daily moves to 3 p.m., and will remain a live broadcast, giving viewers a 4-hour block of live news coverage every weekday afternoon and evening.
