In Providence, WJAR First to HD

WJAR became the first station in the Providence-New Bedford market to make the switch to HD on Monday, when the NBC-affiliate debuted a brand-new set and weather graphics during the morning newscast at 6:30 a.m.

“Our in-house set designer, Wally Franco, and his team worked tirelessly to create and build [a] news desk that showcases our video, our newsroom and our anchors’ keen interviewing skills,” WJAR news director Chris Lanni said of the new, HD-optimized set. “We’re looking forward to exploring all of the facets that this set has to offer in order to improve the viewer experience.”

WJAR put together a send-off for its old set as anchor Frank Coletta unveiled the new, HD studio (video above).

Last week general manager Lisa Churchville announced that the station would be broadcasting in HD by the end of the month.
