In Fort Meyers, NBC2 to Produce 7pm Newscast to Air on ABC7

Starting Sept. 8, the NBC2 news team will produce a 7 p.m. newscast, which will air on sister station ABC7.

The new show’s anchor team will include ABC7 anchor Len Jennings, NBC2 anchor Jamie Yuccas, NBC2 meteorologist Robert Van Winkle and NBC2 sports anchor Brian Colleran.

You may remember it was earlier this year that NBC2 and ABC7 effectively combined their news staffs after years of trying to build separate identities for each station.

While NBC2 has a much stronger news reputation compared with ABC7, NBC2 airs the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune” at 7 p.m. That’s the reason the new show will air on ABC7.

Officially named “The 7 O’clock News,” the new show will take on the fast-growing “WINK News at 7 p.m.,” which has seen rapid ratings growth since it was launched last year. In the recent May ratings period, it actually beat “Wheel of Fortune” in the coveted 25-54 age group. More…
