How Oklahoma City Stations Covered the Billy Donovan Press Conference

By Aneya Fernando

Yesterday, Billy Donovan was named the new head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder, in five-year deal worth about $30 million.

Today, three major Oklahoma City stations cut into their regular programming to cover a press conference at the Chesapeake Arena with the new coach and Thunder general manager Sam Presti.

CBS affiliate KWTV started their coverage the earliest, with anchors Kelly Ogle and Amanda Taylor coming in with breaking news at 1:25 p.m.

NBC affiliate KFOR began coverage at 1:27 p.m., with anchor Kevin Ogle cutting to sports director Bob Barry Jr. at the scene.

Fox affiliate KOKH broke into Divorce Court at 1:32 p.m., with anchors Mike Brooks and Wendy Suares, before cutting straight to the press conference.

ABC affiliate KOCO didn’t break into the press conference at all, choosing instead to air the full episode of General Hospital.  A ‘Breaking News: Billy Donovan Named Head Coach” banner did appear during the soap opera, starting at 1:23 p.m.
