Houston’s KIAH to Expand Weekday Newscasts

KIAH (Channel 39) is the latest Houston television station to expand its weekday newscasts, announcing Monday that it will add 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. newscasts on Sept. 28.

Mia Gradney, who anchors the station’s 9 p.m. newscast, also will anchor the afternoon newscasts, said station manager Roger Bare. The shows will be separate newscasts, but some stories will appear in both half-hours, he said.

Three stations in recent weeks have announced expanded morning newscasts, and a fourth, KRIV (Channel 26), is expected to follow suit later this year. Channel 39, however, is the only station this year to expand afternoon news.

“It allows us to take advantage of the (newsroom) shift that we’re already operating,” Bare said. More…
