Ilona Carson is leaving the anchor desk at ABC-owned Houston station KTRK after 16 years.

Carson, who announced the move on-air, is leaving live TV to focus on her children.

“I know other parents watching this understand the juggling act we perform every day as working moms and dads,” said Carson. “And the sacrifices we make, always trying to do what’s best for our loved ones. I’ve always felt that I would know the right thing to do at the right time.”

“I also feel the time passing so quickly. Selfishly, I don’t want to miss a moment with them,” she continued. “I know how blessed and lucky I am to be able to make this decision, but it’s still not an easy one.”

Carson will continue to work on station projects and specials. Her last day on the anchor desk is June 18.

“I will be forever grateful for you, the viewers, and my amazing colleagues,” said Carson.
