Happy Friday to those who celebrate! This week, we have a story about a print reporter getting her first job in local TV, a local TV veteran who is celebrating a major milestone and another who is using his retirement to help others.

Sarah Szilagy will join Columbus, Ohio NBC affiliate WCMH as a digital journalist. She begins in October. Click here.

Melanie Lawson is celebrating 40 years with Houston ABC affiliate KTRK.  Houston media writer Mike McGuff said for a generation of Bayou City television news viewers, she represents the 5 pm news.  Click here to read about it.

Alexis Cruz starts as anchor for Gainesville, Florida CBS affiliate WGFL. She’ll anchor every Monday through Friday at 6 and 11 p.m. For Alexis, it’s a return to North Central Florida. Click here to read about it.

KDFW morning anchor Tim Ryan announced his retirement in early August. During his final week before retiring, Ryan encouraged viewers to donate blood in his honor. Over the years, Ryan has given more than 17 gallons of blood and—during his final week—he donated once more. Click here to read about it.
