Fox Houston Viewers Come Together for Cancer Patient’s Wedding

By Kevin Eck

Fox-owned Houston station KRIV showed local TV’s ability to bring a community together.

After Nicole Moore, a cancer patient who had lost her hair, won a wig in a contest in April and the wig maker failed to deliver to the soon-to-be-bride, KRIV did a story on the man, named the hair angel, who stepped in to make sure she had a wig for her planned October wedding.

KRIV viewers who saw that story in April said they wanted to pitch in and help out with everything from music to photography for the wedding.

Recently, doctors told the couple Nicole might not live long enough to see her wedding day. Within 24 hours, the volunteers, along with the hospital where Moore was being treated, came together to make the wedding happen.

The story took off on Facebook with over 9 million people reached. The video was viewed over 3 million times.

There’s a Gofundme page for Nicole. “[T]he original venue set for October 25th will not refund their money,” KRIV reporter Melinda Spaulding wrote on her Facebook page. “While many generous viewers donated wedding items after we first met Nicole, no venue was donated for their short time frame. She paid for it all… as she was also taking on huge medical expenses.”
