Longtime WBBH chief meteorologist will do his last forecast today.
TVSpy reported Robert Van Winkle’s retirement announcement back in October.
“I’ve always dreamed of an early retirement,” he said.
The iconic weatherman spent 31 years at the Waterman Broadcasting owned NBC affiliate. He’s been the face of major storm coverage over the years including Hurricane Irma earlier this year.
In honor of Van Winkle’s last day on air in Fort Myers, station managers and co-workers wore the weatherman’s eclectic ties to work.
“We are all wearing our Robert Van Winkle ties!” Darrel Lieze-Adams, the station’s vice president of news, on Twitter.
Meteorologist Allyson Rae, who joined the station in November, will replace Van Winkle on the 6p.m and 11p.m. newscasts.
