Mark Harmon,a sports reporter/anchor at Atlanta’s WGCL for 17 years, and Georgia Public Broadcasting for the last 6 years–before losing his job in December–has also now lost his house.

The AJC reports Harmon’s home in Norcross, GA burned down Saturday.

Harmon was not home at the time, but his wife Margaret, who suffers from heart failure and is on oxygen, was home and barely made it out. Their 17-year-old dog Buddy died.

“A neighbor heard her screams and dragged her out seconds before smoke would have engulfed her,” Harmon’s friend told the AJC. A Go Fund Me page was set up to help the family. It has already raised $23,000 of its $30,000 goal.

“I didn’t know so many people cared,” Harmon said in a phone interview.

Harmon worked at WGCL from 1992-2009 and at GPB from 2010-2016.
