Former KSAT Anchor Isis Romero to Join KENS in San Antonio

By Kevin Eck

Isis Romero is joining San Antonio CBS affiliate KENS as an evening anchor.

Last July, Romero left San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT after her contract wasn’t renewed.

“This moment comes with so much joy!” Romero said on social media. “It has been my honor and privilege to cover the San Antonio community for over a decade—and I’m excited to be able to continue working in this great city.”

Romero’s departure from KSAT came seven weeks after the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists released a diversity audit that showed a lack of Latino representation among anchors in San Antonio’s top four affiliates.  At the time, the SAAHJ said it was “shocked and troubled” by her termination.

“I’m thrilled to be joining a news organization with such a profound commitment to family and community,” Romero said. “It is an honor to represent KENS 5 on the evening anchor desk and continue their legacy of excellence.”

“Isis has a great connection with the people of San Antonio—and as a station with deep roots in the community, we believe she’s found a great home in KENS 5,” said KENS president and general manager Tom Cury.

Starting June 6, Romero will anchor the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts for KENS.
