Former Kansas City Anchor Sues Station Group

Former KCTV anchor, Karen Fuller, says she was let go because of her age.

She is now using the Meredith-owned station for age and gender discrimination.

According to the Kansas City Star, Fuller filed a suit on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

The report says Fuller is alleging “the company has created a “ceiling age” for its female anchors but not male anchors” and that “women age out in their mid-to late 40s.”

Fuller started at KCTV in 2003. The report says multiple contracts were renewed and management never gave her a warning about her job performance. But in January 2015 she was terminated “without prior warning, cause or legal justification,” according to the report. Fuller’s contract was up in April that year.

The Star says the anchor was forced out of the building on February 25, 2015 without giving her the opportunity to say goodbye on the air.

Fuller is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.

She has since taken a main anchor job at Sinclair-owned KGAN in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
