First Day of Affiliation Switch in Raleigh

By Kevin Eck

Two of Raleigh, N.C.’s local stations switched affiliations this morning. NBC affiliate WNCN became CBS affiliate WNCN, while CBS affiliate WRAL became NBC affiliate WRAL.

WNCN’s new morning anchor Russ Bowen and co-anchor Stefan Chase told viewers today was “a day we’ve all been telling you about” at the top of today’s 4:30 a.m. show. They called the switch to CBS North Carolina exciting and then moved on to news.

At 4:30 a.m. WRAL morning anchors Renee Chou and Bill Leslie called it a transition day. Shortly before 7 a.m., the station did a round up of what viewers can see on NBC. The anchors then tossed to Capitol Broadcasting president and CEO Jim Goodmon who was live in master control for an official switch to the peacock network. Goodmon pushed the button at the top of the hour to segue to the Today Show.

WNCN was a little less dramatic, they just tossed to CBS This Morning like it was any other day.

Here’s Goodmon at the helm:
