
FiOS1 News has shut down and 150 people are losing their jobs in the New York area.
A longtime meteorologist Joe Rao says he is going into a “forced retirement.”
In an interview with The Daily Voice, Rao said it was a sad day.
“‘WE’LL MEET AGAIN’ — Well . . . a sad day for me career-wise, as today is the final day for FiOS1 News,” Rao wrote. “And with it, what might very well be my final day as a broadcast meteorologist.
FiOS1 was launched as a 24-hour news network available to Verizon cable subscribers. Its competition was News 12, which is owned by Altice USA.
The hyper-local news aired in Long Island, West Chester and New Jersey. The last newscast aired on Wednesday at 11 p.m.
