Experts Say L.A. Anchor Reacted Properly When Earthquake Struck

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

Earthquake experts analyzed the viral video of the two KCAL anchors reacting to the earthquake that hit Southern California on July 5.

Sara Donchey and Juan Fernandez were live on the air for the CBS affiliate’s evening newscast when they began feeling tremors. In the video, you see Donchey toss to break and get under her desk. Fernandez didn’t follow, he remained seated.

According to a story KOIN ran this week, experts said Donchey did the right thing by going under the desk.

“The female newscaster was trying to build consensus,” the expert said. “The best way to build consensus is to take action.”
