The news anchor Russ Mitchell will exit “The Early Show” at the end of the week, leaving a gap in the lineup for the perennially third-place CBS morning show.
Mr. Mitchell’s move represents the first change on the show since David Friedman, a longtime NBC producer, was hired as the executive producer of “The Early Show” last month.

But the change was decided before Mr. Friedman arrived, according to two people with knowledge of the matter, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it.
Mr. Mitchell will become the national correspondent for CBS and will continue to be the anchor of the Sunday edition of the “CBS Evening News.” More…
