Detroit Anchor Calls Out Viewer for Ignorant Comment About His Hometown

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WJBK anchor Roop Raj called out an ignorant viewer on social media last week and it has received a lot of attention.

“‘I don’t know where you came from, but here in America,’ a fellow American wrote to me today,” Raj said to start his lengthy post. “To that ignorance, I replied ‘Troy.’ I’m from Troy, MI.”

The Detroit anchor says it all started with this tweet from a viewer regarding the trade war with China:

“Raj, I wish you understand why the tariffs will be in place. I’m not sure where you came from,” the user wrote last week. “But USA wants fair trade do some homework then report.”

Raj educated viewers on his upbringing in the Midwest, his parents immigration to the United States and how his parents helped when engineers were in short supply in this country.

The tweet has received hundreds of comments and thousands of retweets.
