Cuban Ex-Chancellor Tells WTVJ American Media Created Dissidents

WTVJ anchor Jackie Nespral was in Cuba covering the Pope’s visit when she got an earful from the man who was, at one time, considered the third-most powerful man in the island nation.

She asked former Cuban chancellor Ricardo Alarcón why the Pope hadn’t visited with those who oppose the communist government. He told the anchor for the NBC-owned Miami station the Pontiff was “so busy to waste his time with not important persons and not important issues.”

When Nespral pinned Alarcón down about the dissidents being “not important,” he blamed the American media for creating them.
