CNN Sees Ratings Bump but Not Major Victory

Well, it turns out that CNN’s ratings last week weren’t quite as good as originally promoted.

On Monday, The Huffington Post ran a piece about “major ratings victories” for CNN during a news-heavy week that included coverage of the Gulf Coast oil spill, the Times Square bomber, and a shaky stock market, among other stories. Since then, others have analyzed the numbers and it appears that HuffPo presented CNN’s ratings with a little too much enthusiasm.


As TV By The Numbers points out: “While CNN, as usual, increased its ratings during the big news week, its weeks position in total day (#2 to Fox News) and prime time (#3 to Fox News and MSNBC, and not far ahead of HLN) were where theyve been for several months.” More…
