CNN Replacing Jon Klein with HLN Boss

CNN announced Friday morning that it has named a new top executive. After years of overseeing a major ratings decline, Jon Klein has been shown the door and the network will move forward with Ken Jautz at the helm.

Jautz is a natural choice for the struggling network as he’s successfully shaped CNN’s sister network HLN into a force in cable news, one that has often overtaken CNN in the ratings. “Since taking over HLN, Jautz has been credited as doubling the network’s prime time ratings,” paidContent noted.

In a memo to staff, CNN President Jim Walton extolled the virtues of the network’s new leader. “Ken is a rarity — a working journalist who is an even better news executive,” Walton gushed. And, concerned that the door may hit Klein on his way out, Walton added, “Jon has made important contributions to the CNN story.”
