Joe Pagonakis has announced his retirement from Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS.

“My sincere thanks and gratitude to Northeast Ohio viewers for turning to News 5 and trusting me to tell their stories for more than three decades,” Pagonakis said. “It has been such an honor and a blessing to have the opportunity to try and help others in need in my hometown for all these years.”

The Cleveland local started working in production at WEWS in 1981. He then moved to Youngstown, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana before returning to WEWS in 1993.

“It’s impressive for someone to have the impact that Joe has had throughout a 40-year career reporting on communities and serving the viewers,” vice president and general manager Steve Weinstein said.
