At 11:48 p.m. on Wednesday night, Chicago’s TV stations broke in with news that was 108 years, and 10 innings, in the making.
“Cubs win! Pinch yourself, because you’re alive!” said WLS anchor Alan Krashesky as the local ABC anchor team interrupted Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel just happened to be interviewing a Cubs fan in Wrigleyville earlier in the evening, when the game was tied 1-1 in the third inning.
“The 108-year drought is over,” said WMAQ anchor Allison Rosati, as the NBC station broke into Late Night with Seth Myers. WBBM broke into the Late Late Show with James Corden and WGN interrupted The Middle.
Fox station WFLD was carrying the game, and remained with the network until Midnight when they began their own coverage. “They have gotten on top of live truck,” said anchor and Chicago native Dawn Hasbrouck around 12:10 a.m. as coverage continued into the early morning hours with thousands of Cubs fans packing the area around Wrigley Field.
