Charlotte NBC Affiliate Having Transmitter Problems

By Kevin Eck

Charlotte NBC affiliate WCNC is having “major” transmitter issues.

“The transmitter is now running with 50% power, which should translate to coverage for 90-95% of the viewing area, although, some viewers may need to run a channel scan on their TVs to find WCNC again,” the station explained on its website. “Power will be slowly increased beginning Thursday after the system has had a chance to warm up. ”

The Charlotte Observer reports the problem started Saturday when a section copper transmission line burned out. Cable customers have not been affected since they receive the signal on a dedicated line.

WCNC chief engineer Steve Kiser told the Observer the station ordered three 20-foot copper segments to replace the failed section.
