WCNC weekend anchor Tanya Mendis said goodbye to the Charlotte, N.C. NBC affiliate on Saturday.

Mendis is leaving journalism after 15 years, and the newscast could be the last one of her career. She started working at the station in 2016.

“Today was it,” Mendes in a Facebook post. “Contrary to popular belief, I’m not leaving for my family. For once, I’m doing something for me. This pandemic just gave me the perspective I needed to be brave enough to leap.”

There’s no word as to where she is going next.

Mendes came to WCNC from KTVK-KPHO in Phoenix, Ariz. where she was an anchor and reporter. She has also worked in Chattanooga, Tenn., Dalton, Ga. and Albuquerque, N.M.
