CBS Opens ‘Digital Newstands’ in Philadelphia

CBS-owned television and radio stations in Philadelphia are combining resources to expand the reach of their news, information and entertainment services across the market.

Beginning today, the stations will team up with local marketing and technology company Center City Direct to launch the region’s first street-level news network. The stations– KYW-TV (CBS), WPSG-TV (CW), KYW-AM, WOGL-FM, WYSP-FM, WIP-AM and WPHT-AM –will be the exclusive news content providers for what CBS is calling the market’s first “digital newsstands.”

Thirty-nine newsstands in Philadelphia went live at 7 a.m. today with multiple news sources — a 24-hours news ticker and a flat-screen high-definition television set to broadcast news, weather and sports updates along with tourist information about Philadelphia.

Plans are to eventually expand to 120 digital newsstands city-wide. KYW-TV and WPSG will provide the TV news updates throughout the day. The CBS radio stations will provide content for the marquee. More…
