CBS-affiliate KTVT won the nighttime news race in Dallas-Fort Worth with both its 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts finishing first in total viewers for the February sweeps period. This is the first time that both the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts finished #1 in their respective time slots during a sweeps period.

KTVT was able to fend off longtime rival WFAA in both time periods, averaging 198,160 viewers at 6 and 237,550 viewers at 10. Both averages show significant increases from the previous year. The 10 p.m. newscast was up 22,620 viewers compared to February 2010 and 6 p.m. saw an increase of 56,970.

During the month, KTVT benefited from CBS’s strong primetime lineup while also receiving a boost from two former WFAA luminaries. Anchor Tracy Rowlett and meteorologist Troy Dungan, who both spent decades with WFAA before retiring recently, appeared in special segments with KTVT anchor Karen Borta during the week of February 14th.
