The longtime nightside assignment editor at WFXT, the Fox station in Boston, got a big promotion at another station in town.

Bill Sheerin has joined WCVB as the station’s newest managing editor.

“Bill is a highly-regarded journalist with an exceptional track record of covering major local and national stories. We’re confident that his proven management skills, as well as his ability to lead in a fast-paced news environment, will make him a great addition to the outstanding NewsCenter 5 team,” said Bill Fine, WCVB’s president and general manager when making the announcement.

“It is a privilege to be joining the extraordinary NewsCenter 5 team and to be a part of the legacy of news excellence that has kept New Englanders informed for generations,” said Sheerin. “I’m excited to bring my experience and energy to Channel 5, and I’m eager to get started and contribute to the station’s tradition of delivering the best news and information to viewers.”

Sheerin has been at Fox 25 for the past 17 years. He’s covered major news events including the Boston Marathon bombings, the conviction and death of James “Whitey” Bulger, the Merrimack Valley gas explosions, major storms and sports events.

He started at WTVT in Tampa, Fla during his senior year in college in Tampa.
