Boston Anchors Will No Longer Wear Ties

In Boston, tie-less is in.

NECN, NBC 10 Boston and Telemundo have a new dress code for talent, which means that anchors will no longer wear ties. According to, news director Ben Dobson wanted to adopt the casual look in order for news personalities to mirror their audience.

“We want to reflect our audience, and the tie is a barrier between us and the audience,” Dobson said to the paper. ‘It’s a piece of cloth, and if we can remove that, and reflect our audience better than we are now, we think it’s a more comfortable viewing experience.”

The decision was made by Dobson and Audrey Mansfield, visual stylist for NBC-owned stations. Women have also been told to dress more causally when reporting in the field.
