Amid Mass Layoffs, Veteran Canadian Anchor Reflects

Anne Mroczkowski says she’s not yet read to talk publicly about being fired as Citytv’s longtime anchor, but hints she has non-news “opportunities” on her career horizon.

“I am excited to have a look at the opportunities that are out there,” she said yesterday. “As an anchor I couldn’t take advantage of some opportunities, because the neutrality of being a news anchor is paramount and you cant be perceived to have bias.”

Three days after losing her job, Ms. Mroczkowski was more inclined to talk about her future than her past, as she struggled in a phone interview to mask her disappointment at losing one of the most high profile local TV news assignments in the country.

“I always believed there were a dozen great broadcasting jobs in Canada and I had one of them,” she said. More…
