Albany News Director Leaving After 3 Decades

By Kevin Eck

Eric Hoppel, news director for WNYT in Albany, New York, is leaving the station after 30 years.

He announced the news last week. Hoppel started at the NBC affiliate in 1987 as the 6 and 11 p.m. producer.

“The decision to leave was Hoppel’s alone and he has no immediate plans following his departure,” reports the Albany Times-Union.

Rick Gevers reports Hoppel has been ND at the station for the last 7 plus years and was the assistant ND before being promoted to replace Paul Lewis in the fall of 2009.

There’s no word where he’s going next.
