Alabama Reporter Stops Robbery

WAFF‘s Vincent Crivelli stopped what may have been an attempted robbery in a local grocery store parking lot Thursday night.

Crivelli, a reporter for the Huntsville NBC affiliate, told Al.com, he was shopping for groceries after work when noticed a woman, who is a Kroger manager, inside her car, screaming and honking her horn.

“It didn’t look like it was a domestic dispute,” Crivelli said. “It looked like it was much more, and she was screaming for help.”

Al.com says the suspect, Leonard Grey, approached the woman and asked for money. She refused and got into her car. Grey then opened the door and jumped on top of her.

He said he pulled the guy off the woman and held him until police arrived 10 minutes later.

“At the end of the day, I think that I did what any man should have” Crivelli said. “While maybe the majority of the population doesn’t have that same mindset, that doesn’t mean I did anything great. I just did what I should have done.”

Al.com reports the suspect was charged with third-degree robbery. He was convicted of sexual battery in 1998 and is a registered sex offender.
