This year, longtime WAFB anchor Cheryl Mercedes will be starting a new life in Houston.

Just before Christmas, Mercedes announced she’s leaving her job in Baton Rouge, La., as anchor and nightside reporter for a job as an investigative reporter at KHOU.

After 12 years, she’s heading to Houston’s  KHOU.

“It has been a privilege to tell your stories. Baton Rouge will always have a special place in my heart,” she said.

Mercedes made the announcement at the end of the 5 p.m. newscast on Dec. 22.

The station put together a highlight reel of her best stories over the years. You can watch it below.
