After 18 Years, Sevcec Leaving Telemundo

Big changes afoot at Telemundo: After 18 years with the network, eight as anchor of the “Noticiero Telemundo” nightly newscast, Pedro Sevcec is saying hasta luego.

His replacement: Broward-born Jose Diaz-Balart, a veteran anchor and reporter not only at Telemundo but CBS and even, way back when, WTVJ-NBC 6. Diaz-Balart will also anchor “Enfoque,” a new Sunday-morning public affairs show (closely modeled on “Meet The Press”) that will start airing sometime after the first of the year.

The changes are part of a big new push at Telemundo toward news integration — not just between shows, but between the network’s broadcast, cable and digital operations as well.

The daily news show “Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste” and the morning program Levantate will both start making their longer segments available through video on demand as well as producing exclusive content for cell phones, their websites, and possibly even smoke signals if you ask nicely.
