Affiliates Ask Feds for Protection from Comcast-NBC Deal

Countless ABC, CBS and Fox affiliates are now calling on federal officials to protect them from the anti-competitive practices they say will result from the proposed Comcast-NBC mega-merger.

The television stations associated with each of those channels told reporters this week they feared Comcast’s bid for NBC would give the network too much of a competitive market advantage, which could leave their affiliates stuck with unfavorable and costly retransmission deals.

Many of those station owners are consequently calling on the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice to ensure their fair treatment, if they ultimately approve the proposed mega-merger in the coming months. More…
