Bob Allen is stepping aside as executive vice president and general manager at Gulf-California Broadcasting Company, which operates four TV stations–KESQ, KDFX, KCWQ, and KUNA–in the Coachella Valley.
Gulf-California, a subsidiary of the News-Press & Gazette Company, recently announced that Allen would be retiring in June.
Allen, who joined Gulf-California in January of 2000, will be handing the reins to Mike Stutz, currently the corporate director of news for News-Press & Gazette.
“I congratulate Bob Allen on his retirement knowing he will be a hard act to follow,” Mr. Stutz said. “I am humbled and honored to be offered this opportunity to manage such a great group of stations.”
Allen has worked at TV stations across the country during his 51-year career in broadcasting. He started as a reporter at Milwaukee’s WITI before moving on to news director posts at KCTV in San Diego and WTMJ in Jacksonville. Before joining Gulf-California, Allen held news management positions at St. Louis’s KSDK, Denver’s KUSA, and WITI.
“What I will miss most is working with the people here,” Mr. Allen said. “I work with, and for, the best people in the broadcasting industry.”
