WTOV, an NBC-affiliate serving the Ohio Valley, debuted a new, 90-minute evening news block yesterday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
For the past 15 years, WTOV has run “Seinfeld” between 30-minute newscasts at 5 and 6 p.m. but now the station has decided to move in a new direction, offering local news instead of syndicated content in the timeslot.
“Through research, News9 viewers told us they want more news,” said Tim McCoy, vice president and general manager of WTOV (channel 9). “It only made sense to expand our newscast.”
Eric Minor and Allison Latos will be at the anchor desk from 5-5:30 and 6-6:30 p.m., while Natalie Herbick will join Minor from 5:30-6. Chief meteorologist Kevin Carter will provide weather updates throughout the 90-minute news block.
