Dixie State College student Tara Theobald was ecstatic about the news story she did for St. George television station KCSG.
“I didn’t like what I’d done before on other stories,” said the senior communications major from Salt Lake City. “I’m so excited with this one. I didn’t quit. I’m going to have to call my mom.”
Theobald’s story, an interview with a school principal who ran in the St. George Marathon on behalf of a student who lost a leg, was part of a new program that combines the resources of a privately owned, for-profit television station with the labor of students enrolled at a nonprofit public college.
Three weeks ago, KCSG entered into a tentative agreement to share resources with Dixie, and students helped haul equipment from the station’s studios several blocks away to the Jenning’s Communications building on campus. More…
