KCAL Anchors On-Air When Quake Hits

By Kevin Eck

When a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Southern California last night, one station was on-air.

Viewers not looking for shelter saw KCAL anchors Sara Donchey and Juan Fernandez reacting to the shaking which hit around 8:20 p.m. and was centered in Ridgecrest, California.

“We’re making sure nothing is going to come down in the studio here,” said Donchey. From personal experience, a TV studio is not a pleasant place to be when an earthquake hits. That’s when you learn if the hot and heavy lights hanging above you have been fastened properly to the grid.
