The New York Police Department is dispatching additional officers to TV stations across New York as a precaution following this morning’s senseless murders of a WDBJ-TV reporter and photographer. NBC New York reports enhanced security is being ordered “out of an abundance of caution and is not related to any specific threat against media in New York.”
“RTDNA is horrified and saddened by the senseless deaths of Alison Parker and Adam Ward, the two WDBJ employees,” said Mike Cavender, executive director. “While the shootings are under investigation, our most sincere sympathies go out to their families and friends and all who worked with them at WDBJ.”
Ward’s fiancé is WDBJ morning show producer Melissa Ott. She was in the control room and saw the shooting happen live. Parker, 24, was dating Chris Hurst, the 6 and 11 p.m. anchor at WDBJ. This morning he tweeted:
