Zurawik: Keith Olbermann is more McCarthy than Murrow

By Chris Ariens

The Baltimore Sun‘s David Zurawik let this week’s Deutsch dump sink in for a day or two before writing about it. So here goes:

…here I come to write once again about what a reckless TV figure Keith Olbermann is — and how irresponsible MSNBC and NBC News management are for giving him a national platform and the network’s credibility to spread his innuendo, invective and smears. Olbermann tries to talk like he’s Edward R. Murrow, but he operates in the dirty tradition of Joe McCarthy.

Oh boy. Olbermann, who’s expected back on the air tonight after a colonoscopy (TMI, I know), might have something to say about that.

But first, Olbermann responds to TVNewser, “[Zurawik] is entirely wrong on the facts, of course. But he’s got the right idea about ‘waiting’ so he doesn’t sound quite so hysterical. Only his time frame is wrong – instead of 24 hours he should try 24 years.”
