WSJ: Ted Koppel May Join New NBC Newsmagazine

By Alex Weprin

The Wall Street Journal reports that former ABC News anchor Ted Koppel is in talks with NBC News to become a contributor to the new primetime newsmagazine, “Rock Center with Brian Williams.” The WSJ notes that Koppel would only appear occasionally, likely less frequent than regular contributors Harry Smith, Meredith Vieira and Kate Snow.

The newspaper also gives some insight into when the show may premiere. As expected, one of the options being considered is having it replace another show that flops in the ratings, but the WSJ also floats another possibility:

It is unclear when the show will first air and in what time period. One slot being considered is Tuesday at 10 p.m., according to one of the people familiar with the matter.

Tuesday at 10 PM is currently home to the series “Parenthood,” so either NBC is nor optimistic about that show’s success this season, or it may delay or move episodes of that series to accommodate the newsmagazine.
