> 5:33pm: The attack occurred at 12:25pm local time, before dawn in the United States. ABC asked other news organizations to refrain from reporting the news for several hours, TVNewser has learned.

> The banner above is from CBSNews.com. The site features an interactive feature called “journalists under attack.”

> ABCNews.com has posted a “small sampling” of the thoughts and condolences that have been posted on the message boards today.

> The AP is running this bio of Woodruff.

> The NYT reports: “A military spokesman, Lt. Col. Barry Johnson, said one Iraqi soldier was also wounded in the attack, which he said occurred north of Taji about 12:25 p.m. Officials did not provide information on the nature and extent of his injuries.”

> Jeff Jarvis, Buzzmachine: “We’ll never know but one wonders whether they were attacked because they were reporters taping at that moment.”

> A TVSpyer asks: “Does anyone know if they were rolling tape when it happened?”

> Washington Post: “According to a U.S. military official who was briefed on the incident but spoke on the condition that he not be named, the attack came as they rode in a Soviet- made MTLB armored personnel carrier, a more than 12-ton vehicle that can carry about a dozen soldiers. It is described as ‘lightly armored’ on the website of the Federation of American Scientists, which catalogs the specifications of military equipment. The armor in its turret is said to be 7 to 14 millimeters thick. ‘It looks like what got them was standing up in the turret,’ the military official said, adding that doing so, while less safe, was not unusual. ‘Another guy inside didn’t have a scratch on him.'”

> Earlier today, an ABCNews.com message board poster said the network should tap Charlie Gibson to temporarily take over for Woodruff on WNT. ABC apparently deleted the message.
