Who Would Replace Gibson On GMA?

According to yesterday’s NYT, Charlie Gibson may leave Good Morning America and anchor World News Tonight full-time. That’s what an insider predicts in today’s NY Post: “I think at some point Charlie will leave ‘GMA’ altogether. They’ll probably start him off doing both ‘GMA’ and ‘WNT’ as he did before, then have him work with Vargas and transition him in to ‘WNT’ when she’s on maternity leave.”

Let’s take it a step further: Who will replace Charlie Gibson on GMA? Would ABC promote an internal candidate, or take a page from NBC’s Vieira playbook and hire a name-brand outsider? One anonymous tipster asserts that execs are negotiating with Tom Bergeron. The host of Dancing with the Stars and America’s Funniest Home Videos guest-hosted GMA in the 90’s, but was passed over for the anchor chair by Kevin Newman…
