Who Gets to “Beat the Press”?

The Boston Herald’s Jessica Heslam interviews Emily Rooney regarding the use of the phrase “Beat the Press.” The article stirs up the recent controversy even further.

Rooney, daughter of CBS’s Andy Rooney, is host of “Greater Boston” on WGBH public TV. She has owned the “Beat the Press” copyright since 1993 and the segment still regularly appears on her show.

But on the heels of MSNBC’s Dan Abrams going after CNN for their, “intellectual thievery” of his “Beat the Press,” Rooney is getting lawyers involved.

“I’ve asked our lawyers to get back into it,” Ronney said. “It’s our most popular show. I think this is intellectual thievery.” Sound familiar?

An MSNBC spokesperson declined to comment, but TVNewser hears the Abrams segment will continue without a name change.
