What Would You Fix About TV News? Ali Velshi Gives His Answer

By Alissa Krinsky

“OK Twitterverse and Facebook buddies,” St. Petersburg Times TV/media critic Eric Deggans tweeted on Thursday, “I’m wondering about this for a column; what are the five things you’d fix about TV right now?”

That question prompted an on-air response yesterday from CNN’s Ali Velshi. “I’m not one of those guys who thinks TV is all that broken,” he said, with the caveat that he’s weary of the “endless, tiresome, predictable debate” on cable news.

Instead, Velshi believes in “conversation, respect, and — above all — curiosity…It’s not about fixing TV to me, it’s about being different. It’s about providing a different product, serving a different viewer, and creating a different relationship than the one we’re used to in the TV world.”
